Approved 26 out of 30 amendments to the 2023 budget proposed by various City Council members.

Amendments covered a broad array of topics. Council members approved reallocation about $1 million total from MPD to other departments, including:

  • $30,000 to the Civil Rights department to fund the new proposed Community Commission on Police Oversight
  • $353,004 to add three staff to the Performance Management and Innovation Department
  • $150,000 to the Neighborhood and Community Relations Department’s Office of Immigration and Refugee Affairs
  • $185,000 to fund a new full-time position at the City Attorney’s office
  • $550,000 for various community safety projects, such as a Lake Street Safety Center

At its next meeting, the council will revisit a proposed amendment to reallocate about $186,000 from Regulatory Services to the Civil Rights Department to fund support for labor standards enforcement.
