Hello #Detroit !
I will be live reporting the DDOT Virtual Community Input Meeting today at 5pm for #DetroitDocumenters
03:32 PM Jan 16, 2025 CST
thanks!! I cant make the meeting but I’ll be reading this thread later tonight
Robert Cramer, Executive Director of DDOT is opening the meeting
A lot of updates came very quickly. Here are some screenshots I was able to get in time
First commenter voiced their concerns regarding conflicting and obsolete statutes to the deleted, and the Deputy Director noted the suggestions
Next commenter says the improvements in DDOT, infrastructure and service are not sufficient for the commuter’s needs and urges them to speed up the progress
The next commenter asks what can be done to help remediate the cost of rides for handicapped passengers. The commenter suggests that there should be a system in place to make paratransit free.
Just FYI, this is done in several other large municipalities including New York City
Next caller voiced concerns about vague, undefined and erroneous language in the rules
Next commenter pointed out that it doesn’t really make sense for reduced fare cards for seniors to need renewing every four years when, logically, one someone becomes a senior citizen, they will necessarily remain for the rest of their lives, so where’s to verify? No one has ever gotten YOUNGER.
Next commenter urged DDOT to do more to make sure arrivals are on time. They also had high praise for the efforts of Michael Cunningham II

The next commenter lamented a station near her closing for maintenance without notice, making her life significantly more difficult as a disabled person
A capital projects manager for DDOT is taking the commenters complaint and promised to look into it
The next commenter urged the department to think creatively about how to publicize and expand the department services
Another commentor voicing their praise for Michael Cunningham II
That commenter also voiced concerns about the state of bathrooms in transit stations. Andre Mallett and Jennie Whitfield, dep directors, say if they have contracted a new company for cleaning and that they will work to improve communication which is the largest issue
The next commenter is concerned about safety along the routes and asks if there’s any plans for police presence or other security
The next commenter emphasizes other callers concerns about communication up to and including changing locations of stations without properly communicating
The next commenter says that stations are not being properly cleaned and that human waste is all around
They go on to describe broken handicapped doors and abusive behavior from drivers
That’s it for commenters. New Executive Director Robert Cramer is saying that reliability and service are the foundations of DDOT and thanked those who spoke for their input.
