Downtown neighborhood (Directions)

On this assignment, Documenters will elevate the places, vibes and voices from Akron’s neighborhoods from the perspective of those who live there as shared by Documenters. All content should contribute to a better understanding of the place through the people, places, history and current situation of each neighborhood.

Documenters will go into an assigned neighborhoods over a three-day period from 8 a.m. Friday Sept. 12 through 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. You will gather content by interviewing people, highlighting a business or nonprofit group and sharing information about a public space central to the neighborhood. The Signal Akron office will be Documenter central for those three days where you can hang out and connect with other Documenters, editors and get something to eat and drink!

The goal: We want to know more about each of Akron’s 24 official neighborhoods and create establishing stories about each neighborhood.

Background: Signal Akron is committed to being in each of Akron’s vibrant neighborhoods, listening to residents and reflecting their questions, concerns and triumphs in our daily coverage. Documenters, many of whom call these places home, are perfectly aligned to elevate a better understanding of each neighborhood for all Akronites.

The pay for each assignment is $90 and we expect 4-5 hours for each assignment, though this may vary depending on the Documenter.
