  • Received an annual report on stormwater management

    • Use of salt to clear snow has decreased by 40% since 2001, staff said.
    • During public comment on this item, Henry LaBonte of the East Isles Neighborhood Association said that in the last 15 months, his group has gathered 4000 gallons of trash from the neighborhood around the lake, almost all coming from clogged storm drains. He called for more frequent street sweeping. Public Works Director Margaret Anderson Kelliher responded by calling for an increase of participation in the Adopt-a-Drain program.
  • Received an update on citywide street lighting

    • Staff noted a 67% reduction in the backlog of repair requests.
  • Received an update on a legislative directive requesting an analysis on municipal sidewalk plowing. Joe Paumen, director of transportation maintenance & repair, said that a full draft analysis examining what the city currently does and does not provide in snow clearing services, should be ready the week of May 29.
