Registration for this training is full! We do not keep a waitlist but there will be a limited number of drop-in seats available the day of.

Our city officials make big decisions during public meetings every day—but the vast majority receive no media coverage and produce minimal records. Interested in learning how to keep tabs?

This two-hour workshop will introduce you to the Documenters community through an overview of Chicago’s civic landscape. Join us to participate in skill-based exercises designed to help you source verifiable information, fact-check your work and understand your rights through Open Meetings law. These are core skills that can be used on a range of paid Documenter assignments.

Our community-building workshop will conclude with a learning review activity to make sure you feel ready to document, and once you complete the activity you’ll be eligible to apply for assignments.

Join us on Thursday, January 30, from 5-7 PM, at Harold Washington Library (8th floor, rooms 13-14). We will use Documenters.org and other Internet resources throughout the training, so bring your account login and a laptop or smartphone, if possible. We’ll also have a couple extras on hand.
